What to expect

what to expect from counselling

What is counselling?

Do you need to talk about something that’s troubling you? Do you feel that there is no one in your life who understands you? We all experience times of difficulty in our lives when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose.

Talking to a trained professional helps us to make sense of those challenging times and offers a way through them, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves and our feelings.

A counselling session takes the form of a conversation, with the difference that one person is a trained therapist, and the other a client and the conversation is all about the client. The counsellor listens, and provides a safe, non-judgemental space so that the client can feel heard, understood, and accepted. Counselling provides a safe, impartial and confidential space in which to explore your feelings and help you find ways to deal with emotional issues.

Counselling can help you to reflect and work through any problems in an understanding, secure and safe environment. You will not be judged or criticised for who you are and how you are feeling.

Online Counselling Sessions

I offer a free introductory session on the telephone which gives an opportunity for you to get a better sense of me and how I work and for us to discuss what your expectations of therapy might be. Once our first session is agreed I will send you a counselling agreement as well as details on how to access our online counselling sessions. Individual sessions usually last 50 minutes long. However, if you require a longer session, this can be arranged.

Counselling via video link is an increasingly popular choice for those seeking help and support. For online counselling, all you need is a phone or access to a computer. You don’t need a huge amount of technical knowledge to make use of online counselling, just a reasonable internet connection and a laptop, pc, or smartphone. I offer sessions via Zoom meetings which is a stable platform with privacy settings. All you need is a quiet space where you won’t be overheard.

Individual (50 minutes)

£50 per session
£60 per evening session (6-9pm)

Concessions may be negotiated. Payment to be made at each counselling session by cash bank transfer.

The full fee remains payable before 24 hours’ notice is given.
